This poem is called Peacekeeper – it’s inspired by a quote by Rainer Maria Rilke, which urges couples to be the guardians of each other’s solitude.

‘The point of marriage is not to create a quick commonality by tearing down all boundaries… a good marriage is one in which each partner appoints the other to be the guardian of his solitude…’

I never really got this until I had kids, but now it feels really on point. When I’ve had 2 kids all over me all day, the most loving thing my husband can do when he comes in is to give me time to myself. Know what I mean?

I’m sharing this poem on my wedding¬†anniversary as a thank you to my lovely husband for all the times he’s given me the space to find some sanity after a day of making like a climbing frame.
